When starting with a potential client I do an evaluation of their site. In looking at their websites these are the most website design common errors made. Most can be easily remedied.
Here are the issues.
Your intent is vague. They land on your site and really have no idea what your focus is. Even worse they clicked on a link to get to your site and once arrived your site isn’t offering the information desired easily.
Old design. As one of my clients put it “my website lobby looks old fashioned”. To be honest web design is not the end all for potential client conversion but it does help with credibility and navigation. New designs are scroll down, easy to digest bits of information, that get them deeper into the site.
Using the same graphics. To have the same picture on all your pages and posts make for a very boring site. Your bounce rate will go off the charts!
Plethora of colors and fonts. Keep your fonts to three preferably two. Colors should be themed based and limited to a few.
Logo graphic is outdated. No matter what you do to the website a bad logo graphic will make it look cheesy.
Not audience focused. You need to understand your target audience. For example, a more senior audience will love larger fonts.
Links that don’t make sense. Banners and especially rotating banners are getting long in the tooth. With that said well placed focused, easy to understand, links can still be a crucial piece to conversion and web design in general. Keep from going over the top with too many however.
Millennials use mobile devices. Your site needs to look good on a smartphone or tablet. Many times that is easier said than done. However, mobile is the new future of surfing the internet and reading your website.
No clear contact information. Top fold of your website should have your contact information. A clear way to get additional contact information as well. Phone numbers should always be linked for easy calling on a smartphone.
Too slow. There can be many reasons for this but typically its your graphic sizes and no cache in place.
If you have no idea of what I am talking about, and the changes are over your head, give totallysales a call and let them help you design a professional company website that will convert for sales and/or leads.
